scripture

Why memorize scripture?  The Word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)  I long to know God more and through His Word, I am better equipped to handle my earthly life.  And, so I might see a clearer picture of God and how He is working in my life.

“Almighty God, who spoke the world into being, move us to read your written word.  And when we need revelation of our own hearts, make your word a sword and a judge for us, and give us courage to hear and obey.”  –unknown

Ephesians 6:12  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. [NIV]

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
[ESV]

Psalm 30:5  For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning
[NIV]

Psalm 55:22  Cast your cares on the LORD
and He will sustain you; He will never let
the righteous be shaken.
[NIV]

Ephesians 2:10  For we are God’s handiword, created in Jesus Christ to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

John 16:33  I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have over the world.

Deuteronomy 6:7-9  Write these commandments that I give you today on your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them to your foreheads.  Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

Isaiah 40:11  He tends His flock like a shepard: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those who have young.

2 Corinthians 5:9-10  So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us fro the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Luke 9:23-27  Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.  For whoever wants to save their life will loose it, but whoever looses their life for me will save it.  What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet loose or forfeit their very self?  Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the Holy Angels.  Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Kingdom of God.

Colossians 3:1-3  Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Matthew 6:24   No one can serve two masters.  Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and money.

1 Timothy 6:6-10  But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out of it.  But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.  Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish things and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.  For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.  Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
